Meta has announced a major change regarding the storage of Facebook Live videos: Starting February 19, 2025, live videos will be automatically deleted after 30 days.

If you rely on Facebook Live for content creation, marketing, or personal use, you’re probably wondering how this update affects you and what steps you can take to save your videos.

In this article, we’ll explore how you can prevent your Live videos from being deleted and preserve your content.

Does Facebook Automatically Delete Live Videos?

Previously, all recorded Live videos were stored indefinitely on Facebook. However, after February 19, 2025, Live videos will only be stored for 30 days before being permanently deleted.

Facebook is implementing this change to manage storage and encourage users to repurpose their content. This aligns with Meta’s broader strategy of prioritizing short-form videos like Reels

Important Note: This new policy applies to live videos created on/after February 19. Any past Live broadcasts will soon be deleted in waves.

How Can I Save My Facebook Live Videos?

No need to panic just yet! Facebook will send a notification before your live video is deleted, giving you time to save it. Once you receive this notification, you’ll have 90 days to download your Live video by following these steps:

  1. Go to your profile or page
  2. Tap the Videos or Live tab
  3. Open the video you want to download
  4. Tap the three-dot menu and select “Download video”

You can also find your past Live videos by accessing your Activity History from the three-dot menu on your profile.

Bulk Download Option

If you have multiple live videos scheduled for deletion, Facebook offers a bulk download option. When you receive the deletion notification, you can choose “Download Live Videos”, which will generate a compressed file containing all the videos set to be removed.

Postponing Live Videos Deletion

Here is some great news: Facebook also allows you to extend the 30-day deletion deadline by up to 6 months. This gives you extra time to arrange for storage on the cloud or your device. After this period, the videos will be permanently deleted.

To delay deletion:

  1. Open the notification sent by Facebook
  2. Tap "Learn more"
  3. Select "Postpone deletion"

Convert Live Videos into Reels

Another great way to preserve your live videos content and be aligned with current trends (and reach even more people!) is to convert your live into short videos. Facebook provides an option to trim parts of your Live video and convert them into Reels. You can do this immediately after ending a Live session or by accessing the video later on your profile or page.

Keep in mind that Reels have a shorter duration and must be in a 16:9 aspect ratio.
