Social media never slows down, and these last days was no exception. From new features in development to platform clean-ups and regulatory challenges, here are five important updates from early April that social media professionals and users should know about.
1. Instagram Is Testing a "Blend" Feature for Reels
Instagram is working on a new feature called Blend, designed to create a shared Reels feed between you and a friend. It’s a private space that recommends content based on the Reels you’ve shared and your individual viewing habits—think of it as a TikTok-style feed just for two.
The idea mirrors Spotify’s Blend playlists and aims to make Reels discovery more collaborative. Currently, Blend is still an internal prototype, with no external testing yet, but if rolled out, it could deepen how users engage with short-form video together.
2. Instagram Removes Notes from Posts and Reels
Last year, Instagram expanded its Notes feature from DMs to feed posts and Reels, hoping to bring casual commentary to more parts of the app. But it didn’t catch on.
Head of Instagram Adam Mosseri announced that the feature is being removed to simplify the experience. Notes will remain in DMs—where they’ve seen strong use—but won’t clutter other areas of the platform moving forward. It’s part of a broader effort to make Instagram feel less overwhelming.
3. Facebook Revives the "Friends" Tab
Facebook is reintroducing a new Friends tab that allows users to see only posts from friends—without suggested content or ads. This move brings back a more personal feed experience, echoing the platform’s early days and aiming to re-engage users who miss simpler social sharing.

4. Grok AI Chatbot Now Available on Telegram
Grok, the AI chatbot developed by X (formerly Twitter), is now accessible through Telegram. Users subscribed to both Telegram Premium and X Premium can interact with Grok directly within the Telegram app.
This strategic move extends the reach of X's artificial intelligence tool, positioning Grok as a competitive option in the rapidly growing market for AI assistants and chatbots across multiple platforms.
5. TikTok’s Sale Deadline Extended Again
The deadline for TikTok to divest its US operations has been extended by 75 days, now reaching mid-June 2025. President Trump confirmed this extension through an announcement on Truth Social.
Talks with potential buyers are ongoing, but any deal still needs approval from the Chinese government. Several major US technology companies, including Oracle and Amazon, have expressed interest in acquiring TikTok's US assets.
TikTok remains active for now.
