How Facebook’s New Changes Affect Your Image Posts

You may already know about how Facebook’s algorithm works, but what does that mean for your image posts?

Facebook has been rolling out a change to the way images display on your Page based on engagement. Now, Facebook will take into account how much engagement an image post is generating – and that may determine how long that post remains in your Timeline.

Facebook may limit how long the post remains in your Timeline, and then move posts from there to the photos section of your page. (Note: this algorithm change affects only image posts – not links.)

What should you do?

Now more than ever, it’s important to share super engaging content that your followers want to engage with.

Editor’s Note 2020

Since we first published this post, Facebook has made quite a few changes to their algorithm. Some of them were bigger than others. But one thing has remained and will remain important to Facebook: they want high quality content that inspires engagement, connection and communication.

So what can you do to make sure you’re staying in Facebook guidelines and creating the best marketing experience for your audience?

  • Audit your social media content to make sure everything is still relevant, valuable and follow’s Facebook suggestions
  • Regularly check your analytics and metrics to be sure that your content is doing the job you want it to.
  • Invest time in Facebook groups.
  • Spend time engaging with your audience so you know what content they want to see. Ask questions, post polls, run surveys or go live to talk to them.
